A pesar de que este grupo de blues-rock se formó primero como Goldberg-Miller Blues Band y luego Steve Miller Blues Band, no fue hasta 1967 que acortaron su nombre para quedar como Steve Miller Band. Integrado por Steve Miller (vocals, guitar, harmonica, synthesizer, keyboards), James Cook (guitar), Lonnie Turner (bass) y Tim Davis (drums, percussion, vibraphone, vocals) comenzó a destacar (despúes de 6 lanzamientos previos) con el album The Joker (1973) con el que vendió más de 1milllón de copias en ese año (Disco de Platino). En 1976 lanzan Fly Like An Eagle, en 1977 Book of Dreams, en 1981 Circle of Love, Abracadabra en 1982 y en 1984 Italian X Rays; para mí estos fueron los albunes con mayor auge (incluyendo el Greates Hits 1974-1978 y el Live de 1983. Ellos siguieron lanzando producciones, recopilatorios e inclusive en junio 2010 lanzaron su último proyecto titulado Bingo; como así también continúan efectuando presentaciones en vivo.
Singles más representativos: The Joker (1973), Take the money and run, Rock'n me, Serenade y Fly like an eagle* (1976), Jet Airliner, Jungle Love y Swingtown (1977), Heart like a wheel y Circle of Love (1981), Abracadabra, Give it up y Keeps me wondering why (1982), Bongo Bongo y One in a million (1984) y por último I wanna make the world turn around (1986).
